Beginnings: For Expectant or New Parents
Beginnings is a fun, supportive and educational program for pregnant women and new parents that will encourage and help prepare them for childbirth as well as the childrearing that will follow in the months and years ahead.
“I’d already had one abortion…so when I came to Beginnings I knew I was going to go through with this pregnancy. Beginnings provided a sense of support. Being around other pregnant women was nice. It was accepted that I was pregnant instead of frowned upon. Also Beginnings has supplied me with great contact information. Beginnings has only been a positive experience for me.” Pia, 22
“I found Beginnings to be extremely informative. When I found out I was pregnant, I thought “how scary, I don’t know how to take care of a newborn baby!” Now, after attending the classes, and with the help of one of the nurses, I have much more confidence. I am not scared at all!” Jill B., 18
Beginnings provides peer and mentor support throughout your pregnancy. You and the father-to-be can attend free life-skills classes with other young women and men. The classes include education on healthy pregnancy, budgeting, fetal development, delivery, cooking, nutrition and other topics of interest. As you attend and participate in class, you earn points, which, as accumulated, can be exchanged for brand new baby items and diapers to help you prepare for your baby’s birth.
The Beginnings Program meets once a week at various Obria offices.

Fathers are also welcome to come to Beginnings. Dads are an important part of your baby’s life and Obria Medical Clinics want to help prepare them for fatherhood. Twice a month we have the Dad’s Project. We provide male mentors who will support fathers-to-be throughout the pregnancy and help them transition into parenting.
