Abortion Costs

Abortion Costs Info

How much is an abortion in Pasadena, CA and Whittier, CA?

The cost of abortion varies widely, is dependent on a variety of factors.  These include but are not limited to:

  1. Health Insurance.
    • If you have health insurance, you may want to discuss with them to become clearer on what your insurance plan may or may not cover in terms of pregnancy abortion.
    • If you don’t have health insurance, your out-of-pocket cost may be higher. Some government health insurance plans assist with pregnancy abortions, however, others do not.
  2. Variations between States and Clinics. The cost of abortions varies from state to state and clinic to clinic. It is important to gather all your information regarding cost prior to your abortion.
  3. Type of Abortion. There are two types of abortions – medical abortion (the abortion pill) and a surgical abortion. The abortion cost is dependent upon the type of abortion you desire.
  4. Pregnancy Term (Trimester). The farther along you are in your pregnancy, the higher the abortion cost.

The specific cost of an abortion depends on the type of abortion procedure and the size of the baby, which are based on gestational age. The abortion cost rises as pregnancy progresses. How much an abortion costs also varies by provider; abortion clinics and private practice abortionists typically offer lower costs than hospitals. Using national averages, a first-trimester abortion costs $300-$950. Second trimester cost of abortions is $1200-$2100 or more.

Some states may have abortion age restrictions or abortion waiting periods. If you’d like to know more about abortion laws in the state of California, contact us. Laws are changing rapidly from state to state and new legislation is being introduced regarding abortion options regularly. Our staff and medical professionals would be happy to inform you about current abortion laws and your pregnancy options.

Abortion Pill

Abortion Pill Info

The Abortion Pill tablet (RU-486) is considered a Medical Abortion when drugs are used to abort a pregnancy.

A Medical Abortion using the Abortion Pill (tablet) can be used until 12 weeks LMP (Last Menstrual Period), however, the Abortion Pill’s effectiveness may decrease as the pregnancy progresses. It is important to get all the information you need and the correct information.

Obria Medical Clinics Pasadena and Whittier can provide you with all the accurate Abortion Pill details and facts. We are here to help inform you, so you can make wise decisions about your health and your life.

Abortion Pill Procedure

The FDA approved regimen for the Abortion Pill (RU-486) is a two-visit process using two different pills and drugs1:

  1. The first pill is given orally during the first office visit. The second pill blocks progesterone from sustaining the pregnancy, thereby ending the life of the baby.
  2. The second pill is given orally 48 hours after the first pill. This will cause contractions to expel the baby’s remains. This does not take place at the medical office and may occur within a few hours or up to two weeks after taking the first pill.
  3. A physical exam is given by the healthcare provider about 7-14 days later to ensure the abortion is complete and that there are no immediate abortion complications.

Abortion Pill Risks and Side Effects

  • Not advised for women who have anemia, bleeding disorders, liver or kidney disease, seizure disorder, acute inflammatory bowel disease, use an intrauterine device (IUD), or are unable to return for the follow-up visit.
  • Cramping, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, heavy bleeding, infection and in rare cases, death.
  • In a small percentage of pregnancies, the abortion pill procedure may be unsuccessful in terminating the pregnancy. This risk increases with the length of your pregnancy.2

Abortion Pill Reversal Option

See Abortion Pill Reversal details below on this page.

Fetal Development Weeks 4-8

The following describes some of the developmental steps of the baby during the time frame when a woman is eligible for a medication abortion.3

  • All major systems and organs begin to form.
  • The beginnings of the eyes and ears are developing.
  • Tiny limb buds appear, which will develop into arms and legs.
  • The heart is beating.
  • All major body systems continue to develop and function, including the circulatory, nervous, digestive, and urinary systems.
  • The eyes, nose, mouth, and ears are becoming more distinct.
  • The embryo is in constant motion but cannot be felt by the mother.

Abortion Pill Reversal

Many women who have taken the abortion pill experience regret. If this describes your situation, you are not alone, and there is help for you. Abortion Pill Reversal is a medical procedure available to possibly reverse the effects of the abortion pill.

If you have taken the first dose of the pill and are experiencing doubts about your abortion, it may be possible to reverse your abortion. Every hour since your first dose of the abortion pill matters, so it’s important to call the Abortion Reversal Hotline at 877-558-0333 or an OB provider as soon as possible.

The Abortion Pill Reversal procedure is designed to reverse the effects of the first abortion pill medication you have taken. Progesterone, the medication prescribed in the Abortion Pill Reversal process has no known health risks or side effects for the mother or the baby, other than those normally associated with pregnancy. Progesterone has been safely used to support pregnancies for almost sixty years. Our Advanced Practitioner can answer any questions you may have about the procedure.

It is best to start the abortion reversal treatment within the first 24 hours of taking the abortion pill, also known as RU-486. However, we have had many successful reversals when treatment was started within 72 hours of taking the abortion pill. It may not be too late.

Is it Too Late to Reverse the Abortion Pill?

Our goal is to start the reversal treatment within the first 24 hours of taking the first abortion pill prescribed to you.

What About the Other Pills the Abortion Clinic Gave Me?

The second medication you were instructed to take causes the uterus to contract and expel the baby. If you want to try to reverse the abortion, do not take that second abortion pill.

Why is Progesterone Used?

Progesterone is the natural hormone in a woman’s body that is necessary to nurture and sustain a pregnancy. By prescribing progesterone, we hope to outnumber and outcompete the effects of the first abortion pill you took and reverse its effects.

What About Birth Defects? Is My Baby Going to Be Okay?

There is no record of birth defects caused by progesterone, or the Abortion Pill Reversal medication. The type of progesterone used for treatment is the same as the progesterone made in a woman’s body. It is sometimes called natural or bio-identical progesterone.”

The Abortion Pill and The Morning After Pill are the Same Thing, Right?

No, they are different. The “morning after pill” is marketed as an emergency contraception method and can be taken up to 72 hours after sexual intercourse. New insights into how it works make it clear that it can prevent implantation of the young human embryo into the lining of the uterus. This is a contragestational or abortifacient effect, not a contraceptive effect.

The abortion pill (marketed as RU-486) is taken up to 12 weeks into a pregnancy with the intention of causing an abortion. It works by blocking progesterone receptors. Progesterone is the necessary hormone that nurtures and supports a pregnancy.

The newest morning after pill, Ella, works on a similar fashion as the first pill in the RU-486 protocol, in that its action blocks progesterone receptors. It is approved by the FDA for use up to five days after intercourse and has abortifacient effects.

Does Your Organization Provide the Abortion Pill to Women or Perform Surgical Abortions?

No. However, we do explain and provide information about all pregnancy options, so you can make an informed decision based on medically accurate data. We are here to help inform and educate you and answer all your questions. We walk alongside our patients and give them respect and dignity in their health care choices.

Even though I regret my decision to take the abortion pill, there is no way I can keep and raise this baby alone and without support. What would I do then?

We are here to help support you. Choosing to bring life into this world by delivering a healthy baby doesn’t mean you have to raise the baby by yourself. Placing your baby for adoption is a difficult and brave decision, and may be in the best interest of you and your child. We can introduce you to adoption agencies who will connect you with couples who are either unable to have children of their own or who are simply looking to provide a child with a loving, stable home. We won’t leave you stranded or alone after helping you to reverse the effects of the abortion pill. We are with you through the pregnancy and beyond. We care about you.

The outbreak of COVID-19 has turned life, as we know it, inside out and upside down. A surplus of uncertainty has created a storm fear and anxiety for most Americans. Is it safe to leave my house? Will a mask really help? Should I double-mask? What if I am asymptomatic but a carrier? How do I know if I have it? The questions go on and on. One message that has been well-heard in Duluth, GA is the one to stay home. “Shelter in place” will forever be woven into our collective lexicon. .
